"Rich took us back to the essence of communication itself, in Meisner-exercises involving listening and repeating. It was amazing to witness all the students’ growth from these exercises, and we all bonded really beautifully from working together.
But, the best part of the class is Rich. He is a fantastic teacher. He stretches you to commit fully and challenges you to capture the truth of each moment—he makes you want to work hard and improve! Inspiring, encouraging, patient, and proficient in the technique, Rich Remedios’ passion and devotion for Meisner work is manifest; he has all the qualities of an outstanding teacher. I highly recommend Rich’s Intro to Meisner class to actors both novice and experienced who want to unlock the secrets of the characters they wish to play by first taking on the challenge of getting in touch with their own truthful reactions.
I also recommend this class to directors and theatre academics — Meisner technique is very beneficial for tapping deeper into scene work and better engaging actors."
"Meisner with Rich Remedios is an astounding technique class! It has totally transformed how I approach and execute my craft. I’m completely hooked for life, and if you’re looking to grow as an actor, I definitely recommend taking from Rich! He teaches and gives you the confidence to be yourself and bring your own personality to the work. I experienced a roller coaster of emotions from start to finish. It’s a memorable experience that I recommend for any actor at any level. It is truly a gift!"
"Studying with Rich has provided some of the most defining and affirming work I have found not only as an actor, but also as a lifelong learner. His investment in his students, to help seek out the truth in ourselves with relationship to the text, consistently brought deeply rooted challenges that we faced together to better ourselves as performers. This kind of study and solidarity crafted tools to reach emotional depths repeatably, honestly, and with confidence.
Rich does not mince words or feels any obligation to play nice with his instruction—his passion for teaching makes you want the truth of the scene more, urging you to offer as much of your individual self into each lesson. His class exercises the imagination, but does not allow any separation between the person and the performer. It is hard, but incredibly rewarding and honest work.
As an instructor and mentor, Rich was so committed to my individual growth, I am unable to praise his class highly enough. His Meisner study has not only taught me how to deepen my listening, but to confidently trust my instincts because of how I can prepare myself through the text, and stay present in any given circumstance. Thank you so very much.
"Working with Rich has been one of my favorite learning experiences of my adult life. I came to Introduction to Meisner because I had spent time in improv comedy, and I wanted to take that experience and learn how it could be applied to scripted and dramatic work.
This class gave me clear, structured, and repeatable emotional tools that helped make my performances more truthful and compelling. The hardest part was letting go of my internal thought process and self-awareness, and living honestly in the moment, but whenever Rich helped us do that, it made the exercise jump up to a whole new level.
I can't recommend this class highly enough for any actor who has ever wanted to make their performances more real and accessible, or any individual who's thought about acting and wants to know how to create emotion on demand."

"[I found Meisner Technique to be] extremely beneficial, yes.
As a teacher, Rich is equal parts demanding and understanding. Rather than hold your hand, Rich shows you why you don't need your hand held in the first place. In his feedback, you'll always hear something fiercely honest and thought-provoking. The course gives as much as you put into it, and you can expect to be on your feet and working with new partners and fresh challenges in every session."
"Meisner technique is an essential tool in my actor's toolbox. It gets me out of my head, and into the moment. Whenever I'm struggling, all I need to do is remind myself to observe, take it personally, and respond truthfully.
I appreciate Rich's high expectations. Rich constantly pushed my work further. He is patient, observant, and immensely gifted at helping actors to elevate their work. I also feel he truly wants his students to succeed. I would take any class he offered."
"I find the Meisner Technique extremely beneficial to my work. It's helped me remedy my self-consciousness on stage more than any other training I've had. It demands that you're present in every moment, keeping you active and unpredictable. The core belief of Meisner training,"living truthfully under imaginary circumstances" and "the reality of doing" are groundwork for anything and everything I strive to do onstage. Have you ever 'faked it' onstage? Meisner can give you the tools to free you from 'faking it'.
Rich is a great teacher, finding a great balance between being a hard-ass and patient. Rich is cognizant of each of his students needs and idiosyncrasies, and crafts his coaching in a way that best serves each individual. When I'm looking for a teacher, I want someone who holds me to a high standard, pushes me to be better, and is equally interested in my input as he is in his, a listener, and a person passionate about the craft. Rich is all of these."
"Awesome teacher. He doesn't feed you bullshit but he's also very giving and understanding. He's great at pointing out things that may be holding you back and great at praising you when need it."
"I absolutely found this class to be beneficial to my work as an actor. This class forced me to stay in the moment and therefore act truthfully in the circumstances I was given. I'm often cast as the comic relief in shows, which has always been challenging for me in particular because I as an actor know that the situation I'm in is funny. It's a wall I've had up for years, and anyone close to me knows this about me. Before this class I struggled to stay in character during these moments (which didn't help my self-confidence), and this class has helped me in more ways than I expected. Now comedy doesn't seem so scary or daunting anymore, as it shouldn't, because acting is fun! I learned to do the right work so my performance could be as truthful to me as possible and I have a new-found confidence in myself as a performer.
Working with Rich is challenging in the best way possible. You have to do the work, you can't fight the work, and you have to dig deep. I highly recommend Rich's class to all actors, no matter how experienced or inexperienced you are. I took a Meisner class in college and I expected this class to be very similar, but I was wrong. This class goes more in depth than the class I took; Rich teaches you how to tailor your work outside the class so the given circumstances are vividly real to you when you are in class. As others have said, Rich doesn't sugarcoat things, and if he knows you can do better, he'll tell you. And even though he pushes you in terms of acting, he cares deeply for all of his students and their well-being and never lets things go too far.
You definitely get a lot of bang for your buck with this class, and if you think you can't afford it, think again. I was going through financial hardship (I was in between jobs and had just paid both the deposit and rent for my new apartment) when I approached Rich about taking his class, and he worked with me so that I could take the class without having to empty what was left of my meager bank account. If you're curious about taking this class, do it! Your acting career will thank you."
"The Meisner technique, when conjured and prepared appropriately, does produce real results that the audience can feel. As an actor, I now have the tools to provoke emotions more truthfully than before. If I continue to practice the Meisner technique, I can see my skill set only getting stronger. The classes are difficult at times, but in the best way and immensely rewarding when you put in the effort.
[Rich is] Honest, blunt, thorough and doesn't sugar coat anything. Will provide excellent feedback and information when asked, making the actor more motivated to succeed."
"I'm not being hyperbolic, but this was the most beneficial thing I've ever done as an actor. Other classes/workshops/plays/on-camera experiences have been beneficial--obviously--but this was different. This class, or Rich, or the technique, or he combination of those factors, provided for me (FINALLY) with a very, very, very accurate "mechanism for me to be able to know when I'm being truthful or not." Prior to this class, I thought I knew when I was being truthful--I genuinely thought I was being genuine...THAT is dangerous. It's dangerous when you don't know what you don't know. But I now know, with clarity and certainty, HOW to be honest and truthful and truly, genuinely, honestly, and proportionally respond to my partner. I used to overthink my work to the death of it, until there was nothing "live" about it anymore--it was just me up there attempting to recreate the work I had done on it--hitting certain syllables with certain emphasis, pausing at certain beats, making something "sound" like it means something, and I lost the feeling of it. I learned in this class how to genuinely experience the given circumstances, and genuinely experience my interactions with my scene partner.
The crazy thing about this class is that it is only Meisner I, and I'm so excited to get into it more and study acting, and Meisner more in depth. This class has renewed my faith in myself that I can, and should be, in this profession. I'm re-energized, but now, I have a technique to back that up. Where I faltered before in skill and technique, I now have some tangible tools, some tangible pieces to my process, that garner results. MOST importantly, I'm having fun again. I can't remember the last time I had this much fun acting. I can't remember the last time I would get "in the zone" in a scene like I did in Rich's class. And I generally always ended scenes with a smile on my face regardless of what happened in the scene because it was fun again, and it fulfilled something deep down inside me as an actor that I had been missing for a long time. I really can't speak highly enough about this class.
Rich is a wonderful teacher. Rich strikes the very difficult, very delicate balance of "guiding" you to where you need to go--not forcing or shoving or directing or telling, no line readings, no "think this" or "think that," just honest, straightforward feedback about what he is seeing in the work--which is sometimes enough to point you in the right direction, but if the pointing out of what is actually going on in your work doesn't right the ship, he guides you to where you need to go--tweaking circumstances, encouraging truthfulness, and guiding any other way he can to get you to where you need to go. Rich is incredibly knowledgeable about many aspects of acting, and is vastly experienced-and this shows up in his teaching. He has a breadth and depth of knowledge of acting-the study, and the business, that is invaluable, but never "in your face." Some acting teachers are pretentious, some want to belittle, some want to just be heard; Rich is not pretentious in the slightest, never comes across as "teacher-y" at all--it more feels like a partner or very astute peer guiding you along in the process. Which really fosters a great learning environment-because it never feels like you're going to be wrong, or disappoint the teacher or embarrass yourself in front of other students--and all of that led to incredible growth in students.
Before class I was frustrated with the business of trying to be truthful. The exercises in class re-focused my attention to simply being present and reacting to people and circumstances as they occurred. I learned that preparation must be deliberate and specific, but that preparation is not the work of the actual moment. When you simply let yourself be available in the moment, your preparation manifests itself without your having to force it there.
Meisner exercises [...] connect you with extremes--the most in-love, jealous, grief-stricken, guilty or guilty (etc.) that you can be. I especially love working with classical texts, and Shakespeare writes these extremes all the time! This is to say, Meisner Technique is extraordinarily relevant to all kinds of work.
Rich is fantastic. Really and truly. He held us to the highest standards, and offered each one of us his complete attention in return. Rich has helped me learn to trust myself more, strengthening my confidence and capacity to fully commit. Thanks to Rich's honest and specific feedback, you leave class with a much better sense of your particular instrument--the challenges you create for yourself and also the truth you are capable of.
"Not only did I really enjoy this class but it has helped me greatly in my work as an actor. In this class what I most enjoyed was the practical application from an exercise to script. For me this was an amazing way to work.
Rich is a great teacher! He is not afraid to tell you the truth but it is never in a non constructive way."
"I found the Meisner Technique gave a clearer, more focused path to accessing [...] strong emotion. I can't wait to put what I've learned to use.
Rich is a great teacher! He is not afraid to tell you the truth but it is never in a non constructive way. "
Before taking this class, I went back and forth on whether or not I should take it. I knew a little about Meisner Technique, but I wasn't sure at all what to expect from the class. Looking back over the 8 weeks, I can't believe how fast it went by. Not only do I feel this class has benefited me as an actor, but it has pushed me as a person and that is something I never expected. I have surpassed the limits I placed on myself as an actor, and I thank Rich for pushing me to always strive for more.
I have to say, there were moments when I was frustrated beyond belief at not being able to "get it right". I appreciate that Rich understood exactly what it was like for us to feel this frustration because he's been there. He gets it, he knows that it's challenging, that it takes time, that it's frustrating, but he also knows our potential and is willing to push us there.
There are so many things I will take from this class, and I'm not even sure I could put them all down into words. I have such a realistic understanding now of what it takes to be an actor. Those moments when you really feel connected to your scene, your partner, and you are living truthful to the moment make all the hard work worth it!
No matter where you are as an actor, this class will benefit you! If you are on the fence about whether or not to take the class, just realize that it is tough but you won't regret it!
I am brand new to actor training and this has been beneficial. I remember growing up and being in a few school plays and it was always pretend. This was real – being truthful based on the moment and I really liked that much better. Working with the other actors was also beneficial. Learning the scene from "Doubt" was challenging, fun and personally rewarding.
Rich expects your best at each class. He challenges you and doesn’t let you get by with just trying – you do or you don’t do – he is a taller Yoda with more expression. He gives invaluable feedback. I’m very happy to have Rich as my teacher.
"The Meisner Technique has been incredibly helpful to improving my work as an Actor. Before the class, I was somewhat closed off, and “in my head” often. Through the class I was able to begin identifying more valuable circumstances to connect to and this hugely improved my ability to emotionally connect with my character and scenes. It was tough work! I think my favorite thing about learning the basics of Meisner was realizing how much further I can push my abilities, how much more work there is to be done, and how rewarding that journey can be. I feel that my work has great potential to become more truthful and meaningful, and I am excited to keep challenging myself with this technique!
Rich is honest, and I think that is what we all appreciated most about learning from him. You can trust that he really is present with you and is determined to help you succeed. There is no meanness in his critiques, only a want to help you grow and become better. He is very friendly, open, and constantly relates his own experiences to the material he is teaching. He understands his students and what it means to pursue acting.
Be prepared to confront your flaws and take a more intensive look at your own self before you take this class, because Rich will bring you to many uncomfortable and difficult places throughout its duration, but, in the end, it will be so worth it!"
I found the Meisner Technique very beneficial as an actor. It helped get me out of my head by focusing on my partner and their behavior rather than my own. The technique expanded my way of thinking as an actor and challenged me immensely. I learned a great deal which has made me feel more confident going into auditions.
I had such a wonderful experience having Rich as a teacher. He knows how to push you as an actor and knows how to call bullshit when you aren't honest. It's the kind of tough love that I needed moving forward into my acting career. I always looked forward to the class and left the class feeling inspired, which shows that he had a positive effect on me.
"There are so many ways of talking about this, it's hard to know where to begin. I've found the application of Meisner to be refreshing, honest, and surprising... the only problem being that now any other way of working seems boring. :) ...thanks?
This class stretched my imagination while stripping everything superfluous; calling me to into the simplest, most specific, and most truthful work I can do in every moment. We had a mixed level of experience in our Level I class, and I found the challenge to be the same for beginners and veterans alike, which is one of its key strengths in my opinion. Working in this way is elemental and surprising; as exciting and informative to watch as it is to participate. I found it extremely helpful to me as a performer, but constantly found myself imagining the potential benefit for other disciplines as well: playwrights, directors, and really anyone who prizes communication could probably apply elements of this technique to their work.
Rich, your approach to teaching is simple and direct. I felt challenged by the task at hand, but not overwhelmed. I appreciate how you lead your feedback with questions; I work best that way and find that a good portion of my notes are ideas of questions to ask myself when I feel "stuck." Some of the most helpful moments were during activities when you asked, "What are you getting from him/her?" THANK YOU also for:
1. Outlining boundaries, safety, and expectations at the beginning of the class. The best work comes from when people are cared for, I totally believe that and appreciate your attention to it.
2. Being committed to working well, but with a sense of play and fun. My previous Meisner experience was very somber and felt impossible at best, self-flagellating at worst. I enjoyed the freedom you reminded us about, "this is the place to try and fail.." etc. I'd say your approach is very balanced and healthy, and I'm looking for that not only in my own work, but in those I'm learning from.
Overall, I'm totally obsessed. I absolutely can't wait to work with you both again and Level I has been the highlight of my Twin Cities experience so far. It was so exciting to show up in a new city and immediately feel that I'd hit upon something special. Keep up the excellent work, and be sure that I'm talking you up wherever I go!"
"Meisner Technique has certainly been helpful to me as an actor, particularly for improv. I had a successful audition where I was given a situation in which I had to improv, and it was helpful to be able to draw on the exercises we’d been doing in class - the repetition and personalization of circumstances. I was actually cast in this feature length film as a result.
Rich is a very understanding and patient teacher. He clearly knows the technique and can see when students have been doing the work in between classes. He’s certainly inspiring. He encourages us to find ways to be present and truthful by connecting to extreme imaginary circumstances surrounding people that we can actually visualize - people in our lives. Everything he explained about the technique and the exercises was very clear, and he took great care to make sure that everyone understood what the exercises entail."
"The class absolutely did wonders for me and can do the same for anyone else willing to put the work in. I found you to be an awesome coach, peer, and person and really do appreciate how far you pushed not only myself but everyone else in the class in a progressive direction."
"I've found the Meisner Technique to be liberating, inspirational and endlessly reliable in my efforts as an actor in the time since we wrapped your fine Meisner I class. I envy the people who are now advancing to Meisner II, and I look forward to taking Meisner II myself.
Your teaching is, on the one hand, demanding and motivational, and on the other, persistently friendly and supportive. Your willingness to clarify things by email during the week gave me a needed life-line as I attempted to rehearse class assignments on my own. This was one of many features that made your teaching so memorable."
I wanted to let you know that I found your course and teaching style to be extremely helpful and encouraging. I appreciate you challenging me as well as the other students in class. I learned much when watching you push someone else to do the activity or to find the emotional range or understand the circumstances. I feel as though I landed on my feet and am ready to continue forward in this acting march.
I [found Meisner Technique to be helpful]. The repetition exercises and analyzing the given circumstances as well as the emotional preparation allowed me to relax and become more fully present in the moment and just being myself not acting or pushing.

"I wanted to say Thank you for your teaching and instruction. It has been a game changer for me. And it's weird because I got frustrated, i got mad, i felt I am not doing it right but yet I want more. And I you have given me the tools to go the that next level.
With that being said, I feel very grateful to have you as my teacher. You made a difference in me. THANK YOU!
The Meisner technique has helped me to learn more about myself, be more present in the moment, to connect with my partner, to listen. To get out of my head, still working on all of the above.
Rich as a teacher "REPEAT! REPEAT! Again! Do it again! " you pushed us out of our confort zone big time. I was intimidated at times. You constantly pushed us to go the the next level, whichever that was. You were very educational and explained everything very well. Very respectful with all of us. Answered all of our questions. What can I say, RICH ROCKS!"
"I found this technique very helpful. It help me to be more in the moment and to focus on listening and having a genuine reaction.
I really enjoyed Rich as a teacher because he was encouraging and helpful but also called us out on what needed to be fixed and he wasn't afraid to tell anyone that it didn't seem real. He was good at pointing out areas that needed to be worked on and did it in a non-criticizing way. "
"I absolutely think Meisner Technique is helpful to get you out of your head and out of your rehearsed patterns. It stretches you and reminds you that being in the moment is to let go of control and to have real experiences, not manufactured/presupposed responses to things that are said and done. "Play" happens and it's fun.
Rich is an excellent teacher. He is patient and honest and offers his view in a way that lets you know that he's looking to see YOU bring the work to life in a way that is uniquely yourself and not a idea of what he thinks it should be. He is an encourager and makes you want to up your game as far as the preparation and work you put into what you bring to class. He makes you feel that if you are enjoying your time working as his student, he is enjoying it as much! It's a challenge and a joy to have someone speak to who you present and call you to even greater work.
I love that you get to work every single class and that classes are relatively small so you get time and don't feel rushed through. It is also stressed that you do the work: your classmates are dependent on you, so homework and class work are not taken lightly and (at least in my group) everyone works hard and shows up prepared. "
"I came in to your class with no basis or expectations and I felt intimidated as I perceived that my classmates had more acting experience than I did. That was true, however you did not treat any of us in a way that made me or anyone else feel inferior. You treated us all as equals and we appreciated that very much. That created and fostered a real foundation of trust within the group.
The Meisner Technique was challenging to me and I felt it was very effective in pulling out emotional responses that otherwise would have been smothered by real life expectations of decorum. In addition the technique helped me to inject life into the words of a scene rather than allow my preconception of what I thought the life of a scene should be. I doubt that I would have allowed the spontaneity of our scene to come forth had I not gone through the processing of the words first and then subsequently rely on the emotional interaction/response with my partner to create the scene in an honest and often surprising way.
Your teaching approach was honest and disciplined. At times when difficult emotions arose you were kind and gentle. You made your expectations clear before the class started and you remained consistent with those expectations.
I enjoyed your class and I’m sure I will be grateful for the experience as I continue on this path of discovery."
"I found the technique extremely helpful to me as an actor. It made me accept circumstances and emotions more fully than I think I ever have. It made me extremely uncomfortable at times, but being able to ride that wave was one of the best parts. I feel more comfortable now expressing and identifying emotions in myself, as well as in other people.
Rich was a great teacher! He didn't take any bull shit and made us really sink in to what we were doing. He was always supportive and made all of us feel safe from day one. His critiques were extremely helpful. He pointed out things about my acting that I'd never noticed before."
