Level 1
An introduction to the Sanford Meisner approach to acting technique. Sixteen acting classes are conducted in an eight-week session. In this class the actor works to learn and apply advanced acting principles through a step-by-step progression of exercises that develop his/her ability to work organically, and to create truthful and expressive behavior in acting.
This class is for actors of all experience levels ages 18 and over. Sanford Meisner defined acting as “Living Truthfully under imaginary circumstances.” Meisner Technique instills in actors the basic, essential skills of: listening, responding truthfully and spontaneously, committing to actions, using imagination to fully create and personalize a set of given circumstances, and identifying each individual’s personal emotional groundings.
Attendance to all class meetings in addition to rehearsals outside of class is expected. The class is open to anyone with an interest and willingness to commit to the intensive demands of actor training, however a face-to-face or phone interview is necessary before acceptance into the workshop.
Level 2
The Meisner Technique Level 2 class is a continuation of the intro class and provides extensive exploration in emotional preparation, doings, particularizations and breakdown down a scene into beats.
Admittance into the class is by invitation only and completion of the Intro to Meisner Technique (Level 1) class is a prerequisite.
Level 3
The Meisner Technique Level 3 class builds on what was covered in Levels 1 and 2 with a focus on characterization, impediments, and scene study. Aspects of Michael Chekhov Technique are incorporated into this class to offer additional tools in creating a full-bodied character and clarifying doings.
Admittance into the class is by invitation only and completion of Levels 1 and 2 is a prerequisite.
