Working with Rich on Meisner Technique was a uniquely challenging, affirming, and essential experience that was key in the development of my acting career. To this day I bring the lessons and practices learned in his class with me to the stage and beyond. Not only did his method of teaching allow me to see what I myself am able to accomplish - the manner in which he taught showed me how leading with patience and vulnerability can bring out the best in every body.
In the classroom, he leads by example when asking you to check your ego at the door. He comes in just as open and ready to work as he requires of each student, which is a lot as the work is rigorous and rewarding. He holds the space in a way that allows everyone to feel they have all the allowances to focus on the depth and range of every emotion, character, and scene. Because of the intimate class size, you really dig into the work and have the opportunity to fail, fumble, pick yourself up and try again. Rich’s direction guides you in a way that makes you feel he really sees you, and the unique qualities and capabilities only you have that makes you a talented actor. He comes from a place of honesty and respect, always providing feedback meant to help you see what you are fully capable of and ready to achieve, putting you in touch with the talent you already possess. I count myself lucky to have the opportunity to learn from Rich and call him a mentor, and believe every person interested in any degree of acting should experience him as a teacher.
